The history of company

Nungar Knots was established August of 1994.

It all started after an introduction into natural horsemanship in the Snowy Mountains region of Australia. At that time it became obvious that there was a need for high quality equine rope tack products, not only in Australia, but also throughout the world. This led to the creation of brand new designs.

Although relatively small at the outset, and only operating from the lounge room of a farm house, it soon became clear that there was indeed a worldwide market for Nungar Knots products. The company has long since outgrown the farmhouse, and now operates manufacturing and packaging premises based in the township of Adaminaby, New South Wales.

Nungar Knots is now an internationally reputed wholesale business, exporting from Australia to the world's major equine centres including Asia, Arabia, and the United Kingdom. The list of countries choosing to use these quality products is growing as quickly as the many horse trainers and owners embracing the benefits of natural horsemanship. Although one of many players in a competitive market, Nungar Knots continues to develop and produce only the very finest rope tack products.

How the products are made

Nungar Knots products are essentially assembled by hand.

The company purchases only the highest quality materials for manufacture. The clips and rings use both stainless steel and cast metal, which are made to a high standard to ensure total product quality.

The double braided polyester yachting rope and the budget polypropylene headstall rope are made in Australia, allowing a rigid control on the quality of rope used.

The Nungar Knots production team have been highly trained in the manufacturing process to ensure that all products that leave for the retail shelf are of the highest standard. All staff are themselves horse owners and proudly use Nungar Knots products. Several of the team have been with the company since its inception.

Real live horses and old style saddler measurements have been uses in setting Bridle, Headstall & Hackamore sizes to ensure the correct fit for each horse.

The 'fiador' knot (clip knot under the chin), is mechanically tightened to reduce the risk of loosening. To the left is a picture of how machine tightening improves the quality of the finished product. (left knot is tightened by hand, the right knot is machine tightened)

In the construction of lead ropes and reins with clips, only true double braid eye splices are used. This enhances the quality and strength of the product because the core remains in place within the rope sheath.

Nungar Knots also uses high quality leather for all the poppers in the end of its lead ropes, working lines and reins. High quality harness leather is used for slobber and dribble strap rein attachments.

Why use "rope tack" equine products.

There is an ever-increasing demand for long lasting high strength quality equipment for which rope tack is well suited, and also in the training technique known as 'natural horsemanship' where rope tack is widely used.

Synthetic rope is a popular option when choosing tack due to it's inherent strength, durability, breathe ability and low maintenance.

The basic ingredient of all Nungar Knots rope products is Australian made yachting rope. In the open ocean, rope is exposed to the most extreme weather conditions on earth. This includes seawater spray, heat, UV exposure, and most obviously tremendous strain as it is pulled and clamped with the various mechanisms and forces of a sailing vessel.
Rope is strong.

Rope will take harsh weather conditions such as very high humidity, hot and dry summers, or wet freezing winters. Because the rope is a poylester composite it will stay supple under all conditions making it an all season product.
Rope is durable.

Nungar Knots recommends that your product be kept clean by washing in cold water. Dirt in the fiber of the rope over time will shorten the life span of the product.
Rope is easily maintained.
